Land

A Namibian colleague once said to me, “In Africa we build parks to preserve wildlife. In America, you build parks to preserve landscapes.” This idea of a landscape as immutable is both very American (as in our parks) and the exact opposite of American (as in colonizing and “manifesting destiny”). I like to capture landscapes in an in-between state, half-recognized as we move through them in space and time.
