Ezra Smith’s Pigeon Zine

In the winter of 2024, Ezra (age 13, pronouns they/them) did a project in New York City all about pigeons, one of their favorite animals — they love pigeons because the birds are both survivors capable of living in extreme circumstances, and are often ridiculous. They took photos of pigeons using digital and 35mm film cameras, as well as with Fuji Instax cameras; with the Instax, they also modified several of the prints through scraping and drawing. Ezra also created pigeons out of clay, linocut relief prints, felt, and origami; they placed these around the city and photographed them in situ. They also illustrated pigeons and made some pages of pigeon games and facts that they researched. Ezra took at these materials and made them into a zine — photos of the printed pages are below!
